Other than beating him senseless?

how can i get the guy i've started seeing to tell me how he feels, and what he wants from our relationship? we're not officially a couple, but we are sleeping together. I hope that things will evolve into something more serious, but i dont' know how he feels about it. he says that i'm "10 steps ahead of him." what do you think?
